MENAseries serves as a platform for rigorous experimentation at the intersection of research - design -implementation, positioning itself as facilitator of cultural debates and spatial interventions. MENAseries will host 4 major events throughout the year offering a number of workshops, lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions, competitions and annual summer schools. Each event aims to address relevant issues in design, art, culture, society and the city leading towards an understanding of our role in the global design community. Through its interdisciplinary nature and public exchange of ideas, MENAseries offers the local creative community a forum to seriously engage in and explore various forms of design and develop a critical discourse about the responsibilities of designers in the 21st century.
After the inaugural launch for MENAlab, we will launch the MENAaward followed by a second more intensive workshop called MENAcamp. The events for the year will conclude in MENAdesign; a design festival that discusses, reviews and reflects on design solutions derived from the workshops and the awards. Each one of these events offers the regional design community and those interested in design and the society, a public platform to discuss social responsibilities, design innovative solutions and implement effective changes.
MENAlab (Laboratory) is an intensive studio based laboratory leading to a public exhibition. MENAlab is held in winter and focuses on current relevant design challenges in the UAE and the region in a weeklong lab.
MENAaward (Competition) is an annual regional competition, which attracts an even larger audience to be engaged in a MENAseries topic. It will lead to an exhibition in the annual MENAdesign.
MENAcamp (Summerschool) is held in the summer as a two-week long summer school that focuses on design challenges in the MENA regions. It will invite other collaborators to co-organize the event with TASMENA.
MENAdesign (Design Festival) is an annual design conference and festival which presents not only the ideas produced throughout the MENA series, but also those of young MENA designers who are encouraged to participate and discuss their contributions.
